“Can’t think of many who have been given so many chances” – Venkatesh Prasad

Former Indian cricket fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad took to Twitter to critique KL Rahul’s Test performance and to argue for the inclusion of talents such as Shubman Gill and Sarfaraz Khan in the squad.

Rahul batted with Rohit Sharma in Nagpur’s first Test against Australia, but was dismissed for 20 off 71 balls. He battled against the Australian bowlers and was eventually bowled out by Todd Murphy, a novice.

Venkatesh Prasad said “I have a lot of regard for KL Rahul’s talent and ability, but sadly his performances have been well below par. A test average of 34 after 46 tests and more than 8 years in international cricket is ordinary. Can’t think of many who have been given so many chances. Especially..cont”

“When there are so many waiting in the wings & in top form. Shubhman Gill is in sublime form,Sarfaraz has been scoring tons in FC cricket and many who deserve a chance ahead of Rahul. Some are just lucky to be given chances endlessly till they succeed while some aren’t allowed to.”

Rahul scored quickly on a pitch that aided the spinner from the outset, and he had only one boundary in the innings. The dismissal also left a lot to be desired for the seasoned batsman, who completely misjudged the length of the pitch and ended up gifting the bowler an easy catch.

Sarfaraz Khan, on the other hand, maintained his multi-century domestic tour de force in Mumbai, while Shubman Gill had the time of his life with a double ton in ODIs and a maiden century against New Zealand in T20Is.
